Maybe it could be like the power rating in MCMMO where your overall ranking is comprised of your progress through the various categories.

I think for each world to have it's own moderator we would really need a significant jump in numbers but it might make sense in terms of maybe being stronger in a particular style.

Same world yes but not necessarily next to your last one. Basically as you increase in skill you could work on larger builds and contribute to town infrastructure.

  2. I Love MCMMO, Is that for creative or survival? And do you mean the server might reset at last! :D( im really tired of trying to find a spot to build because theres really almost no more room on the terrain map.) Collaborate on you thoughts of the rank system. I remembered when I was a guest I had quite a great plot size I forgot the size but it was when I built this baby.

Do you mean a world where the players build together as a whole to make a single massive project? Or do you mean a survival world where mcmmo is enabled and the players are working together to build a single project with what they can find?

I have seen it all folks! Alpha, for gods sake, Stephen was talking about using a system similar to McMMO's power level for creative ranks. He did not mean putting McMMO on creative.

Nobody ever suggested putting a survival world inside of creative; that's what our survival and vanilla servers are for! As a matter of fact, the push for our vanilla server was from creative players, who wanted players "working together to build a single project with what they can find". You have managed to type the tag-line of a group that essentially wanted a survival server for the creative players. Only this time, you want plugins, too.

Forgive me if I sound pissed off; the last time I had to deal with something like this was the vanilla server thread, which had dozens of page-length posts that used opinions as facts. The end result of that was we created vanilla, the player who argued most for the server (Keldt) vanished, and vanilla died off after a few weeks.

So no. Nobody is talking about putting McMMO on creative. Nobody is talking about making a survival map on creative. If you want those things, play on survival.

The primary reason I sort of dropped off of creative was that once I got to architect . . . there wasn't really a drive anymore. I was told that this phenomena existed, though at the time I was having so much fun building and getting my things critiqued that I didn't pay it much attention.

It seems a lot of people die when they reach BII, because there's no longer a defined patch of land for them to eat up, they have to use their imaginations a bit more and decide how to incorporate pre-existing landscape. I don't know whether it would help or not to have an actual plot world for each rank, but it would at least provide some boundries so people aren't so overwhelmed when they see a complete world in front of them.

Additionally, once people hit BII, they tend to lose steam. Perhaps incorporating someone's idea from earlier about a communal build world where BII's could congregate and create together en-masse . . . perhaps set up a few project villages with themes that must be followed, etc. Something to keep people coming in and active when their own ideas aren't really panning out for them.

  5. I have the same feeling of"ugh why I'm I building this" . It's true, some people lose the hype of the ranks. I'm BII and if I want a Arch, well I'm not even starting with an idea lol

what do you lot think of starting a clean slate? save a few maps, keep the essential plugins and let the community decide the rest. it would be the perfect way to make creative to what we want it to be. if we did this some things to consider would be plugin/rank ideas, how to get accepted (apply prior and vote like the old shadecrest whitelist system, an in game quiz, or something new) and what we want the vibe of the server to be like, advertisement etc. etc. This would be a lot of work but I do believe it is a good option if we want to revive creative, it would be like making it a completely new server that's designed by the shadecrest community. It would take a while to set up and fix things, but now is a perfect time to do it as we have 0 players on anyways. One issue I can think of is the fact that creative has very few server savvy people, if any. so we would need help to be taught, or to be told what to do or achieve certain server side things. I'm willing to put in time to figure out server side things, but it would be great to have help.

Sorry if this is sloppy, but I'm in a hurry to get outside, the weather is nice :)

The decision to reset the maps is up to the community, but keep in mind that we don't necessarily need to reset the maps in order to restructure the server. We could potentially do a complete revamp of our ranks, application, and building setup to suit what the community feels is best without starting on fresh maps. As far as familiarizing all of the creative admins with server management and whatnot, I would be more than happy to do that, and I'm sure Erik and Cyber would be too. I think getting all of the admins to be able to independently make plugin and permission changes is a big step in the right direction.

Okay. Sweet thanks, I'd love to learn some server management things. and I agree maps don't need to be reset, but perhaps reorganized

Just to throw this out here so I don't forget, what do you lot think of doing a build point system? kind of like the survival vote shop, but instead of receiving points for voting, you can get them for completing build. implement the vote shop for creative but I suppose they should have different things, cosmetics/commands and maybe even WE I guess. of course there would be criteria for what a "complete" build is in order to receive points. I think points should be given based on quality of build, improvement from last build, and I think points should be given for rank ups. thoughts?

  10. It would depend on how many points, for example. If some one makes a small project, let's say 28x18x32 blocks (LxWxH), and the theme is a medieval build. For the build to accumulate points, it would need criteria like bobby said, maybe such as "Organic:use of organic material[leafs, logs]etc. ","Amount of different blocks used[Wood, Cobble, Stone, Stone brick, Stone brick slab,Wool, Fence, Fence gate, Anvil, Stairs, Cobble fence-As a palette to use] etc.","Concept/Idea","Originality","Interior", and maybe add in "Wall thickness". Just to name a few.

I do like the idea of build points. However, completing a build might be too hard to define. It might be better to award Build Points every time you rank up. The awarded points would increase with each rank, as each rank is more difficult than the last. So basically, Guest -> BI might get 2 Build Points, BI -> BII could get 5 and so forth. Now, this could bring up a problem of what do you do when you run out of ranks to get? Well, the most ideal situation if we used this system that I can see, we could add one or two more ranks so that once you reach Creator, you can purchase everything. (If there is a better way, feel free to say).

With this Build Points idea, i'm not totally sure if this goes against the EULA, but could you get them from donating? So with VIP I you'd get 10 Build Points or something.

One last idea for Build Points. They could be used as a reward for players in contests. Yes we could revive contests because we'd actually have something people want.

Also, to incorporate the theme idea, which I do think is interesting, we could award Build Points each time you rank up in a theme. Also, to show what ranks you are in each theme we could have a prefix that goes something along the lines of [I I I I I], or however many themes there are. Each time you rank up in a theme, that number would increase. So eventually, you might get something like [II I IV V I]. This might just make the prefixes too long though. Also, the theme idea might just be too confusing and hard to manage. There might be too many ranks already.

All in all, I do really like the idea of Build Points. The theme idea on the other hand might be impractical.

  12. Well, If people donate on their behalf. I would assume they get the works, w.e and a different color rank etc.. But for the ranks in general, I don't think sub ranks are the way to go. I mean, the difference between Builder I and Builder II is so solute. For example, the complexity of the word. Such as from : (Guest --> Laborer --> Builder --> Planner --> Contractor-->Architect --> Mod) Just synonyms of simple words really make the difference! Reserved ranks are (admin)&(creator)

Oh, one last idea. Maybe for votes you could get Build Points. So say 10 votes = one build point. If we want to keep Build Points exclusively for building and not incorporate votes that's fine too.

  14. Server vote in creative for "Partial restart" Nay:0 Yay:4 ( The Best builds can be moved over) (maybe to the creative section where we showcase the plots.)

Alright, I guess I'll come back and get re-involved. This has definitely got my attention. The staff have spent sometime thinking of ideas, and here are a few that we need opinions on.

    • Remove the Terrain world. In doing this we have only plots for people to build on each rank. However, a terrain world that would have no effect on rank, so you can't rank up with builds in this world, could be made available to everyone Builder and up. This basically would be a freebuild area.

    • New PMC thread for Creative. This would be something new that we could update ourselves and start fresh. It would sort of be a "Grand Re-Opening".

    • Fix the names of the Ranks. So, the names would change to: Guest, Builder, Apprentice, Architect, Creator. We feel removing Builder 2 would make people more inclined to stick with it, and not think the server has too many ranks. Also help make WE easier to get to.

    • Make Ranking Harder. A decent terrain will now be expected from new incoming builders, also premade plots will never be an option. We will be requiring good use of depth and detail in builds, and also good theme. This can help increase the skill level of the server, which is needed very badly at it's current state.

    • New Spawn. I will get with the other staff members on this, with all the changes we will definitely need a new spawn.
    • Build Points. This is our form of in-game currency. Players will be awarded for ranking up, and voting. Ideas for how much could be allocated are: Guest -> Builder = 30 points, Builder -> (Name) = 50 Points, etc. voting = 1 point.
        • Buyable things with build points.
          • Nicknames (within reason)

          • extra plots

          • particle effects

          • pets (EchoPet)

          • Hats

          • access to /tp

          • disguise

          • Prefixes/Suffixes (Again, within reason)

    • Donators. Donators will be able to access anything that can be bought with Build Points
    • Plots.
      • Guest: 33 x 33

      • Builder 65 x 65

      • Apprentice: 151 x 151

      • Architect: 251 x 251
Creator will still get their own world.

Need to define partial reset further.

Is this every world with the best being moved over? Are you redoing the world system at all, which would necessitate the reset? Or are you just clearing older/bad builds.

This is because I would like to remind you all that this is the exact type of discussion which lead us to the worlds we have now, in an effort to revive creative.

One of the only things I would change is a "free-build" type world at Builder I level, and do the plots for B2. Which Chandler beat me to by a few minutes :) Probably different reasoning though. Mine is so "less good builders" can be content doing their own thing with a few others, without the pressure/isolation of ranking up that plots bring.

We were actually considering restarting all worlds and keeping builds that people want to move over.

A new PMC thread would just go the way of the previous 4ish ones we've had. Starts off strongly, but will quickly go inactive. Unless we have a dedicated staff member who updates something like bi-weekly, and doesn't rely on others to bump the thread, then to me it seems like a doomed idea.

I would probably rename B2, but not get rid of it, 5 ranks seems like a nice number to have. (I'm discounting Creator due to it's relative scarcity. If there's more now, then I'll gladly withdraw that statement).

The other things are Staff-related, and I therefore have no bearing on, but they seen neat enough.

In response to Simp. How will resetting any of the worlds (apart from terrain) change anything? It just sounds like a world reset to get rid of old builds, but not something to bring in new players.
