Shade Crest Survival 2.0 Discussion

    First I want to ask that those that do know what is gong on to let others know that don't. Don't troll, just politely point them to the forum so they can get the information they need. Also, please pass on the word about the IRC meet on Saturday to everyone on the server.

    This thread is to be used to discuss what we can change/improve about the server for Shade Crest 2.0. You probably want to know when this will happen. This is the plan:
    - When 1.4 comes out we will switch to vanilla server to give everyone something to do
    - Then server will surface as new Shade Crest whenever there is a Bukkit release for 1.4

    In between the top two events, we will work out a plan for the new Shade Crest.

    Here are some things that I want changed/addressed:
    1: I want to look at over rules and re-do them, make them more simple. I want a section of basic rules that are general, and then a more specific section of very detailed rules for those without any common sense.
    2: I want to have an admin shop. It won't be hidden, and I want it to be much larger than it is now. I want it to buy and sell items, not everything, but at least minerals, and then sell items you cannot normally get in game.
    3: Related to above, I want to think of more ways for players to spend their Rupies. I want to make Rupies easier to get, but at the same time more ways to spend them that are fun, not just taxes.
    a: Have a public "Monstamash" type of thing that you have to pay for to use.
    b: Charge a small admission for events.
    c: Charger for warps. They are a convenience and should be treated as that. If you don't want to pay, walk it's free. I'm thinking charge little for random warpps, but more for world warps. Maybe make going from pvp to peaceful cost more so players are some what discouraged to live in both. This way peaceful players won't try to go to pvp and attack all the time.
    4: Automated public marketplace. We had a marketplace before, but it was outdated, lots of empty shops. I want to have one where it's fully automated. You pay to have a shop plot and then must pay rent (manually) if you don't you get kicked out and someone else can claim your plot.
    5: I want to get rid of the end. No one uses it, and we can just sell cheeseblocks at the admin shop. This will help us in the sense of permissions as there will be less files (due to less worlds) so when promoting players there will be less lag.
    6: No nether warp. Just let players be able to create nether gates in the mining world.
    7: Dynmap: Should we keep day/night like we have now, or just make it day all the time? The night map is cool, but i feel like it's useless half the time because of that.
    8: I want to remove McMMO to make server a bit harder, so it's not as easy. We can get something else that is a lot more lightweight that let's players track their progress.
    9: How can we make joining a town more attractive. Right now you pay taxes for towns, but it doesn't really give anything back really. Should we make it much less expensive? Maybe get rid of towny completely and replace it with something a lot more simple? Maybe get Factions instead? If we keep Towny should we make plot sizes be larger than 16x16?
    10: Players being able to pay Admins for certain services like clearing land and moving houses using world edit. Price can be based on selection size regardless how much of it is air. It will be up to the player to pick the two set points for the maximum efficiency.

    That's all I really have right now. I am sure there are other things we need to talk about, so please feel free to bring them up as you think of them.

    The End:
    I think getting rid of the end is good because if you do reconsider changing your mind about mcmmo, people will just come here to grind endstone since it gives the most xp in mining, it will probably be the same thing if you change to a lighter plugin that is based off mcmmo. This will also make it hard for people to get enderpearls since people come here to farm endermen and sword xp.

    I'll discuss more about this later, since i literally just wrote this 5 minutes before school started xD

    Could we just have a nether portal at the mining world spawn? That way when we reset the mining world, the nether will be reset. I say no on allowing the creation of nether portals, because they'll just be everywhere in the mining world, and in the nether.

    With the nether portals though you will be able to go to different parts of the nether instead or starting in the same place as everyone every single time.

    I'm not sure I will be able to make it Saturday, but I will try my best to be there.

    This is, like everything else, just my opinion. But I think people concerned with building should really be on the Creative Server (I've been playing there a bit, too; so it's not like I think it's inferior or anything). Anytime enough resources can be collected and kept to make huge projects, it means the survival aspect will suffer and we'll be back in the same place.

    I think it would be fun to have an extreme survival server, using plugins like these (perhaps not these exactly, just as examples):
    Extra Hard Mode
    Monster Apocalypse
    Contagious Zombies

    Get rid of Towny. Get Rid of McMMO. Turn on Explosions and Firespread. Be thrown into a world where literally everything wants to kill you, from nature to enhanced mobs. The Monster Apocalypse mod even allows Zombies to tear through walls.

    People will have to band together in order to just survive. Buildings and communities will be much more utilitarian, since they are more about repelling mobs than looking good. People will have to constantly spend money on materials and equipment from the admin shop since they will be losing things continuously, so there shouldn't be so much excess floating around.

    I think it could be fun and fairly unique. It would also solve a lot of problems, since it would be harder to gather and keep resources.

    [edit: I know this is a big change to the server on top of a reset you didn't really want to do in the first place, I'm just throwing it out there because I think a key issue for the reset is how to keep Survival feeling like Survival for a long time without future resets. :)]

    Why do people keep asking this? Lol people should learn to use the forums.

    Factions can be annoying :/ I've seen on other servers where there are 10 factions all adjacent to each other...(I'm not sure if this is configurable or if there can be a price to make a faction)

    Woah, let's slow down here...that's a bit of a big and scary step.

    I'm not really all for the explosions as it will cause lag, and the fire spread will be really annoying because of lightning storms. If the storms are as common as the last world, then our wood houses/structures will be burnt before the first day. :p
  11. Imaxorz, I don't know if you have noticed, but the guests die as soon as they spawn in, you might want to build some sort of platform so they don't rage quit and think that it is a troll server.

  14. Minecraft 1.4 Release date: Thursday October 25

    bukkit will update after the full release and minecraft has said on oct 25 it usually takes a couple days for bukkit so it should be no later then oct 27 for bukkit first dev build

    Wow good find with those plugins, ExtraHard mode looks extra good. I am going to setup a test server with that plugin right away for us to use and test, so we have an idea of it by Saturday and what we like/dislike about it. I might add the other ones as well.

    As fast as fire and explosions that probably won't happen just due to players potentially crashing the server or creative lag. Server should be hard to keep things interesting, but it shouldn't be where your stuff gets destroyed all of the time.

    I'm for making the server harder, but firespread and explosions would lead to really messed up worlds. Towny's best use in recent times was towny chat, and that hasn't been working for a while, if you bring that back the community aspect of towns will return and so will the people joining towns. As for removing towny, if there is a better alternative sure. I've seen factions and it can get really complicated with the griefing and taking over other faction's land and such. I really liked mcmmo party chat here are some possible replacements.

    I looked over extra hard mode and it looks like it could add a lot of fun aspects to the game. I'm not really sure on how to create more ways to get players to spend money. charging for warps would be a good idea.

    mmominecraft (specifically mmoparty, but the other plugins included look interesting)
    CommunityBridge (links website with game, does support xenforo)
    Test/quiz(could help with the guest spawn being to challenging. They just have to complete a basic quiz to get out, with just 1 sign telling them to go to shadecrest.com/join)

    Basically, I agree with everything. Just as long as the game isn't too easy
