This thread is for the discussion of a new survival spawn. Current ideas: Flaws: - lack of material diversity - too large and imposing buildings - some buildings useless - arena is too complex - portals closer to main building Want to help build? Name and rank are on the left. I'm just posting thoughts on the spawn area, after just having explored it myself. - WHY SO MUCH GREY?! - The museum and world portal buildings are good ideas, but I had no idea that they existed until I stumbled across them. - I believe that most people will see the signs telling them the warps and then use then straight away, rather than explore the rest of spawn. - I mean seriously, you would be reprimanded by just about everyone on creative for using so much stone. - There is a huge amount of empty/redundant space there. - There's probably more, but this is all that comes to mind at the moment. Were I to do it again, I would keep most of the buildings, but I would have it branching off of a central boulevard; rather than the free for all it is now.
IGN: ZPWR22 Creative server rank VIP II Brag here about your awesome building ideas and styles My question... Are we just revamping the spawn? Or making an entirely new map? I would enjoy building in either of those. My ideas Well, we probably should make an official Oreshop, instead of just putting it in the bank. Also, another market or mall would be an interesting addition to the spawn. Nordic If we want to make something entirely different, I think a medium sized snowy Nordic village would be nice to have. For instance we could include a small walk through of different plugins, such as how to purchase items and use chat, while incorporating it into physical aspects of the town. Like maybe you have to walk into the inn, than buy some bread, then you have to warp to somewhere. I'm not sure what I see, just not like how the spawn is now, where everything is scattered and only some buildings are used. While others are only ever partially used.
there's a tekkit server that has a really nice spawn layout the way they not only use signs but show examples of rules being broken like a floating tree top and a dig under a wall still being griefing. like there would be a sign that said THIS IS STILL GREIFING and you would have to walk through the little dug tunnel under the wall to continue, not so boring and deff gets the point across ..... i could give the server name but i think that would be advertising lol if not then just ask for it
How about you peoples decide and then we'll throw down a few design ideas somewhere in creative? (I think I saw that tekkit server; the idea was nice, but they made it too long)
We could also theme it quite nicely so that shops are explained in a small shopping prescient and farms/mob/whatever are out in fields.
theres a lot that could be done basically what i was getting that is actually giving examples of what not to do and what to do I THINK would work much better then just a million boring signs lol =P a kind of inter actual tutorial tour? i think were on the same page here
More or less, we've recently been going through similar on creative regarding building a new tutorial area.
If we do any type if in game tutorial, it needs to be very short. I do like the idea of having physical examples of some things rather than just having a generic wall of signs, as that could hold a players interest better. I would really like to see signs and tutorials in game kept to a minimum in game though and try and get the majority of stuff onto the forums and covered in the application quiz. As I said in another quiz, I think people who join a server just want to start playing minecraft, not sit and read the same list of generic rules that they've seen on every other server they've been to. We should only have stuff the most crucial stuff in game, not everything. I think a smaller and more functional spawn would be awesome. This is for the survival server after all, so something that could realistically be built is survival mode would be far more fitting that an imposing city like we have now. The Nordic theme doesn't sound bad, just not sure how buildings like the coliseum or museum would turn out in this style. I'm always willing to help with this. How much I can contribute will just depend on the theme that is picked and the amount of extra time I have with school having just started up again.
There are any number of themes that we could go for, modern seems out of the question as it is just too bland for a spawn. Otherwise the most fitting themes seem to be; Tudor style houses (ties in with steampunk), Nordic and rustic. To be honest, all of these can be combined IMO. We could also add a ship with warp signs to take you to the mining world, which I think also needs a spawn personally.
NMBr2d2 Builder II A few of the things in the main post were my original ideas, and because of that, I have a few plans in mind for the spawn I imagined. It might not be the final product, but if it helps any, I will contribute. (Not next week though MidTerms) Also, some of the ideas in yardworld were actually pretty good, and with A3's post, brought to mind the hot-air balloons that "brought" you to a different world. SteamPunk style air-ships could easily fit in
How about the spawn world merged with mining world? some players roam spawning looking for a place to start off not realizing they cannot do anything there. However, keep the same system of several warps around the word. As for the tutorial, how about this: a whole building or island for it. It can be completed once for x amount of rupies.
I think we should try add functional builds to spawn, and make it more like a town. Have a public library with an enchanting room (maybe one of Z_Millla's tables). Have public farms that people can use, a town hall, and then a bunch of admin houses that branch out of the town centre. When the players leave the town, they can go straight into the mining world. Also, would making griefing in the mining world illegal help with new players sticking around?
griefing was originally allowed in mining because it is meant to gather resources and be a temporary world. If we don't allow griefing when someone destroys a giant forest or sand biome someone will complain that it was theirs.
