This thread is for the discussion of Survivals New Players so any changes you would like to see to either how our current guest system works or how to bring new players to the server should be put here. For any suggestions please include why you believe it would work better then what is already in place or why it would bring new players to the server. (Staff feel free to edit this post as you see fit!)
Here's a list of options: Advertise the survival server on the creative server Pay for advertising <-- max already said that he really didn't want to do this, but i feel that this is still a viable solution. I mean hey, look at creative. More voting, more money for voting, and only a few main voting sites ( really only helps if there are more people on voting the server up) have current members advertise in their schools, tell their friends, etc. Don't shove applying down guest's throats: -Perhaps when guests try to enter the peaceful or pvp worlds, they should be prompted a message saying that they must apply. In the server's description, (on whatever site that may be) have the subtext be a reason why a new person would really love the server. Have old members, and staff that have been around a long time state a reason as to why the server is great. As to why I feel why these methods would work, well I really don't know. The whole reason behind the list is to get the thoughts flowing.
I like moose's idea of weighted rewards, the more you vote the more you get from the voting game, and it's open to everyone. We also need more reasons to have money, so more ways to spend money. Maybe more incentives to join towns/make towns, A set nether warps and end warps that cost maybe?
Let's get a lottery plugin for the 100th time. Along with getting the pvp beheading plugin. People are gonna want to pay big bucks for popular players and staff.
Edit a link to it into the original post on the plugins thread for the pvp heads and the lottery plugin if you have one.
I agree with Arch. Advertising is important and less voting sites was always a plus. Voting for 5 sites, at 100r a site was nice.
If you want to help the server, suggesting to remove sites which give us about 40-50 applications a month ain't the way to do it. The 3 sites we originally had bring in LESS THAN 25% of all applications. I am only currently fine with the removal of minecraft-mp, as it's not doing too great. (Probably because we have 10 people voting for it). It takes me 2 minutes or so to vote on 9 sites, it isn't that hard. Hopefully we can try implement my suggestion for voting rewards. This way you get motivated to vote more. An idea of the rewards here Here's this months application stats. Obviously player referral is a biggy, and I'm sure their retention is better too.
