Okay well I've been looking around and trying to figure out what I need and what I want, this has been so far unsuccessful, so I decided to go ask for help here because I know several people that have designed and built there own PC on ShadeCrest. Oh and sorry if I put this in the wrong section.

So I have a budget of around 1400-1800 (AUD) and would love a computer tower for around this much I already have a TV for a monitor, as well as a keyboard and mouse. I mainly play MineCraft, Ender Scrolls Online and I play some various steam games as well as just general movie streaming and social networking. I would like the best computer I can get with the budget for maximum frames and quality speed. Windows 8 is preferred and also if it can be easily upgraded.

Many thanks to any those that help me find what I want!

    • Windows 8 OEM 90$
    • 8-16GB of RAM. It's your choice on which kind. around 40-70$
    • GTX 770 (your choice on EVGA or Asus)* 350$
    • Intel i5 4670 200$
    • WD Caviar black 1TB (for all your general files and games)* 60$
    • Samsung 840 evo 120GB SSD (for your OS and vital applications)* 80$
    • Any DVD drive, it doesn't really matter. 20$
    • NZXT case (it's all up to you) 40-80$
    • ASUS P8B75-M/CSM LGA 1155 Intel B75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard* 70$
    • Corsair CX 750 PSU 60$
    • if this is over your budget (I did rough conversions) then just tone down the CPU (possibly go with AMD) and the GPU. Going from a 770 to a 760 will save you a butt load of money, but you'll also loose a good amount of performance.
It's up to your for externals. Logitech is a great brand. They work well and I haven't had any problem with them. If you have any money left over I'd buy another Samsung SSD or possibly a better CPU.

Regarding Windows 8. It's worked so far with me and I like it. Yes it's a touch based OS. Honestly, it feels just like Windows 7 (without the start button) just re-skinned. I like the simplistic feel of it. The tiles can be DISABLED and you can set it to boot directly to your desktop. If you want to ignore any of the tiles and things like that, go right ahead (it's what I do). I haven't found any problems with software on it yet apart from the Google Chrome problem I had a couple months back. I think this was due to some mal-ware, not windows 8 itself. From what I've heard, people just need something big to hate on so they choose Windows 8.... I haven't really seen anything wrong with it IMO.

    Plus sides to windows 8:
    1. Better performance
    2. faster over-all
    3. Better start up
    4. Better security (from what I've read, but no software designer can stop a hacker)

*awaits dead and awas to come bash*
Just go to your local Best Buy or whatever you have in Aus, and use windows 8 a bit (not on a tablet). See what you like best.

    In the end Linux wins.

    Wut?

Windows 8 was made for tablets. 8.1 fixes some desktop issues, 8.1+ will fix more, but it was built for use with touch.

    He isn't making a tablet.

So he should probably not use a tablet OS. Just get Windows 7 and wait for later builds of Win8 or Win9. Desktop computers aren't as bad as non-touchscreen laptops with Win8, and the UI is much cleaner than previous versions, but it is still a tablet OS.

They're all dumb, win8 is better than win7. Easier to organize with the tiles crap, just don't use any of the windows apps themselves. I've just got tiles for minecraft and ts3 and league and mumble and google and other shit that open the way they would on desktop. Literally only thing that you can't do with win8 that you can with win7 is log out/shut down really fast.

This thread is already done. You kids can argue elsewhere about windows 8 vs. windows 7. Choooosen, Dead's build is already good as it stands and the choice of os is up to you. badda lock!
