    Hey guys,

I'm a new member on the server and the forums and wanted to post the progress of my plotworld build here. Thanks to the challenge of earning a rank... and partly due to my 18 yr. old son's advice to MAKE IT BIG MOM!... I am building in a way I have never done before.

Three dimensional star.. using half slabs.. lowering some blocks, raising others.

I was so inspired by Poseidon (Thanks Sioutside!) and by some of the chat I've been listening to.. that I've attempted some really fun things in this retake of the Parthenon.

    I have

    a. made it much bigger than I'm used to... I heard this comment several times in chat.. I tore down the whole thing and started over because of his advice. I used just about every square inch of the plot. :)

Used a lot of hidden lighting in the pillars and under the stairs at the base. First time to build BIG.

    b. made use of a lot of indirect lighting (glowstone hidden by steps which allows a lot of ambient light to diffuse through and glow) I learned this trick from my building buddy and redstone king, Atavon.

Here I added curves.. a new attempt on my part. :)

    c. added curves! Oh my... now I am in my element!! This was like a giant light bulb moment for me. :D I have always known I should do this.. but you gotta build big to have room for curves.Thank you for that tour! :) It changed everything for me to day. I literally was drawing designs on loose papers in my purse while my 18 yr. old was driving me home from his guitar lesson. That was a wonderful new jump in my building skills. :)

My star.. used in a mansion ballroom this last week. See how flat it is?

    d. added 3 dimentional effects to my star (being a quilter in rl the star was a natural response to a blank canvas .. i.e. a floor :)) But my design was flat.

After that tour of Poseidon by Siout, I knew I could never build flat again as long as I lived. I have often added 3-d effects to walls of my buildings.. but never thought of doing so for a floor until visiting builds on your server. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to him for showing me that amazing pattern in the sky. It sparked my imagination like crazy. :D

The star design is one I used only a week ago in a the ballroom of a mansion I recently built.. but until I got on your server it never occurred to me to add three dimensional aspects to it. So I dug below floor level and added half slabs for some parts of the design.. and I placed half slabs to raise some of it.

The result ( thanks for the Poseidon tour!) was a much more interesting effect on the floor. I make this all up in my head as I went.. but I did look at a photo of the Parthenon to get started. :)

Here you can see the pillars lit up and the base of the stairs. All the lighting is hidden.

My next goal is to fill in with more wood on the floor and perhaps change and add some color to the pillars. Then for the roof... got lots of ideas for that as I am pretty good at roofs... and playing with the idea of arches as I have just started incorporating those in my builds.

You guys are so used to phenomenal builds that I'm sure this is nothing 'wow'. But I like blogging and posting my progress... such as it is. Hope you enjoy the photos.

And I do hope it's ok for a new person like me to post in this particular folder. I've been blogging for three years.. so it's a natural thing for me to do so. :) For all you noobs like me, hope this encourages you to think big and think outside the box. :)

Needs more color. (See top picture for latest development.)

Glad you added the extra wood in the corners, it really makes it stand out if you compare it to before.

Sio!! It was YOU who gave me the tour :). So now I shall edit the post giving proper credit. :) Your pattern in the sky stuck in my mind like you wouldn't believe. It inspired me so much. I am in love with curves!!! I never tried it before now. :D Many many thanks to you for the tour. :)

Very nice write up. It's cool to see the thought process behind what you are building. I admire the fact that you strive to constantly improve, and really take the time to learn from the other builds you see around the server. Very impressive work thus far.

Thanks so much :) I have done more touring today. :) and stole borrowed a few ideas from Siot and Killor. Shh!! Don't tell. :D

Thanks so much for the advice on my arch. It may be too busy but I'm not sure. :) This is only my second arch. Normally I wait to do detailing.. but 360 suggested a 'something' on the front of the arch.. lol one thing led to another. :)

Oh and one last addition... the bracket trim around the edge of the floor was too pale and narrow...so I widened it and used dark steps. I may do a central stair case into each arch too..nicer steps and some kind of decor going along the sides of the main walkway in...later! I must go clean the kitchen! :)

Looks good Anno! Keep up the good work.

    Word of advice...
I wouldn't try to use more than 2 log variations in a single build. It starts to look a little rainbowed when that happens.

We've been busy with Christmas planning and will be gone all day tomorrow.. until maybe late tomorrow night.. so here's a couple of photos of my progress. I have three arches built..so far. xD

It was VERY hard to get them all exactly the same. I started with a lot more lights on the arches was using redstone at first but the levers looked bad and per some advice from one of the admins.. I decided to use glowstone instead. I also simplified the decor a little bit. :) One more arch.. then .. at last .. the roof. xD

Spent a several hours yesterday and today making all three arches symmetrical. -.- Which they weren't. Sigh... One was to short and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why. It's all good now though. :) ( Oh and one of them had lights going up while both of the others had lights aiming down. ?? Where was my brain?

Ok for everyone who has wondered... where's the roof?--here it is.. but yes it needs supports and I am tearing down this roof as it's too tall. I adore the border :) It's just what I'd imagined! <3 <3 but the roof won't work as it is. I know the perfect fix... so that's the next step. :)

Here's a close up of the border. I love using the corner stair mode to make this design.. a little tricky but very neat look. :)

I made sure to use glowstone on the back to allow the diffused light to glow thorough of course. :) Only behind the adjacent blocks.. not behind the stairs oddly enough. You have to test to see what really gives you the best amount of ambient light.

Also, you guys are rubbing off on my style. lol! I added some detail on the front of the arch again using stairs in odd positions. I love it! I was so excited that I really wanted to bug Killor about it and make him come look, but he was vanished.. and told everyone so. xD Funny how they didn't seem to notice. ^^ lol... but I was careful to pretend he wasn't there. xD

Btw, the faces of the arches used to be completely flat. I think the cross needs to go back to flat though. I'm losing it in the detail.

I have a question for all you experts... At the top you can see that I have made the floor rather 3-d but it means a pretty bumpy walk. Should I leave it bumpy for the visual effect which I must say I love... or embed the designs so it's easier to walk on.. which means more realistic too. Trying to decide on that one..

Thanks for the encouraging notes. :) I really appreciate it more than I can say. :)

Oh, and you may not have noticed but Gurra moved it to the Creative world from the plotworld. I think I'm officially qualified for Builder I xD!!. I was amazed at all the pretty builds in the builder world, but I love the quieter landscape of the creative world. It has only Builder II builds.. I think they are all working towards architect. It was just amazing! I need to just fly around and tour. :) Thanks Gurra for suggesting I be moved. :) (We're neighbors now. :)

Looks good so far! This'll get you a nice, big fat Builder II! (Especially because you can explain what the heck it is you are doing. :D)
