Request for assistance on understanding Towny on ShadeCrest

My apologies if this is the wrong forum area, I really couldn't think of a good place to put it.

I was given a mayorship of a town with no warning and do not fully understand how towny things are calculated on this server. Here are my questions:
    • What is daily upkeep calculated on?
      • Is it number of plots?
      • Is it number of citizens?
      • Are there other determining factors?
    • Is it possible to sell/give back purchased plots?
    • Is an appointed mayor beholden to any citizens/previous leaders (by rules, not by manners)?
    • What are the default towny plot sizes on this server?
      • Is there any space between them?
      • Is it possible to have varied sizes of plots?
I have searched google/towny commands for a lot of these answers and am coming up horribly short. Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. I will continue to "play" with commands to see if I can discover anything else out on my own as well.

    Tl;dr:
Upkeep and number of plots available are based on number of residents
Players can /plot fs 100 to sell their plot to another player, towns cannot sell back to the server
Mayors only need to follow server rules. "Don't be a dick" applies here, so no crazy tax hikes to steal money
Plot size 24x24. There is no spacing. There is no way to change this. :(

Mietm, I really appreciate all the work yo are putting into being our mayor. I know you didn't want this job, but honestly, we'd be screwed in anyone else's hands, so thank you!

    Thanks Taylor!

ezeiger92 : Follow-up question. Is there any way to see the borders of the plots? Or should I just start counting?

You can try /res toggle plotborder or maybe /plot perm hud
Plotborder shows smoke particles on plot change, hud *may* update numbers in your scoreboard. Haven't tested that one.

    ./t claim all

Thanks, Erik - Rem - We didn't want to claim all, the city's upkeep is ridiculous (almost $3k rupees a day). Unfortunately, it appears it's mostly due to the number of plots that were purchased by the previous mayor. I'd removed multiple inactive people from the town at his request and the daily upkeep never changed.

Feel free to close/lock thread if desired.

Upkeep entirely based on number of residents, currently Siliconia has 21. On the wiki, 17-22 residents = 2,690r

If I switched to plot based upkeep, I bet the prices would soar even higher. To be honest, it would probably be a better idea to tax based on plots anyway. Discussion for another day and another thread!

Leaving this open for the time being in case of additional questions.

In Siliconia you could walk around and different areas would tell you what was there like cow farm, chicken farm, etc.. How do I do that?

Either /plot set name X or (to use the plot type) /plot set farm. In general, see /plot set.

Thank you I will try to do the /plot set farm

/Plot set name Farm , is that the first one?
And I have checked the /plot set but I didn't see anything about just naming plots.

I wish there was a clearer way to see the plot borders. The res toggle plotborder isn't very helpful. PaladinDon suggested that I make my town the "server hub." I replied saying that I believed we should have 2 or 3 more towns, it would give players more choices, etc. I also said I hadn't intended of having a very large town. I am just starting out and don't want to get in over my head. Well he said I would be doing the server a lot of good. I do want to help the server, which is why I am volunteering to help other regular players build there own towns so we can have more.

Don't set out to run a town for the sake of the server, it will just make you miserable.

Oh I understans that, I've been wanting to run a town I just didn't know it would happen so soon lol thank you Wade.

I really do think we need a couple more town though, give new players variety and it would offer them a bit of help. But who wants to add someone to their town that might just stop playing on the server?

It all boils down to incentives. Prices have been low enough that towns don't bother with tax, and adding more people to a town can bump up your upkeep; adding people costs the town money!

Now if we had a plot-based upkeep system (still in planning), towns would likely have taxes on, and as long as no new plots are claimed, upkeep remains the same; adding people saves the town money.

Well that doesn't sound too bad. I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying a little tax, I mean I wouldn't mind as a mayor to just pay what was needed myself to save people from having to pay it. Most of my "residents" don't live inside the town though.

I have been having a problem with residents not being able to do anything in the plot that I labeled wild. I am looking up how to undo it right now. I was just wondering if that was a thing or if there was a way to fix that.

/plot set reset should return it to a normal plot, but your issue is probably just build perms.

Try /plot set perm friend on (this SHOULD be /plot set perm resident on, but towny is shit)
This will allow residents to break in the plot. You can do the same for ally (other towns in nation) and outsider (non-town members) if you wish.

I have it set for all perms on for residents, through out the whole town. Resetting it worked, I think!

Also, I did that /res toggle plot border, it worked, then I turned it off.. well now I can't turn it back on?

    Thank you for you help!

"plotborder". If you split it into 2 words, it won't work. I'm guessing that's what you did

Oh I actually hadn't been doing that xD I don't know why I did it in that post *face palm*.
Could it be because Wade also ran the command to turn them off?

And I should have asked in the other thread, but if I did want a thread for the town, would I fill out the form under requests and reports?
