How do I do minecraft?

I have a server I run on my computer, just for personal use, as do many of the players here. I've been utterly confounded by port forwarding, and I've spent hours searching for solutions and rage quitting. the server works fine, and I can run it on multiple computers using the local network/IP. my problem is I can't connect using my public IP.
So I leave it in your capable hands, shadecrest! I have a westell a90 9100em15 router, and I've attached my most recent attempt at the port forwarding rule. Any help/comments will be greatly appreciated!

 

For me others can connect to my server with the public IP, I just have to use to local one since I'm on the same network. So you'd have to get on another network or get someone on another network to see if it works.

 

I did, and they couldn't log on. Did you do anything to port forward with your server

is the port your opening the same as the one configured in your server config file?

 

I've port forwarded my server, and it's very simple, but I use Cisco, which is much simpler

 

Make sure the local IP is the same local IP as the computer you are hosting the server on.

 

Now that I look back at it, make sure that, for your "network IP address," you're typing in your ipv4 address, and not your default gateway. Also, your localhost shouldn't be the same as your network IP address... I'm fairly sure the localhost is the "default gateway." Upon googling "localhost IP," however, most places said that all localhosts reserve the same IP address: 217.1.something.something.I.really.don't.remember."

Anyway, make sure the "network IP address" you entered is your ipv4. And your localhost and network IPs shouldn't be the same.

to get your local IP run "ipconfig" in command prompt, to get your network IP click here

1)yes I've tried my local IP too, I just took a screenshot while trying anything I could find.
2) the port is the same, I haven't changed that at all. I'll give it another shot here son

 

You can also just google "my IP"

 

i've tried everyone's suggestions and looked it up some more. for some reason my computer has 2 firewalls (windows firewall and windows firewall with 'advanced security') both of them are off. still no luck at all.

Sorry, I know this is a bit old. If you're using a mac you can easily use portmap to make a port forward. That's what I do. But before I used my mac I used my windows and it was almost impossible to set port forwarding up. I used hamachi for a bit, then I raged and deleted everything. Hamachi works, but it's pretty slow. That person has helped me do sooo much with my server. Btw, are you using bukkit or just the vanilla?

Got just the solution for you, friend. Check out my tutorial video; I have the exact model and trust me, it is not user friendly. But it's easy to setup once you know what to do.



All you need to know is in the video. Hope this helps you out!
