It has been more than a year that Shade Crest has seen server cap. Since then, its been steadly declining, and shows no real sign of recovery. I think it's time to sit down and think of ways to get our server traffic back up. This is the whole purpose of this thread, I need you my fellow Shade Cresters to come up with ideas to help us fix the server population issue.

The actual spawn itself is confusing and honestly a maze to find your way out of (im not talking about the brown wool room i mean after that)

a town that will take in new members that often has assistants on to add them.

possibly factions rather then towny? i personally like towny better but a lot of people seem to prefer factions but i wouldnt want to the shadecred become... well not shadecrest.

I think we could have a better system other then greylist (i can personally think of one im not up to date on plug ins)

obviously advertising is HUGE but i know funds are short at the moment. but that could change with a little more traffic.

mini games (although on the fence about the idea due to fear of ruining why i love shadecrest)
capture the flag (easy enough to make an arena)
hunger games (could be held on another world)
    +others

getting more traffic is going to take manpower but i think there's a lot of people who will stand behind this. and ill post more ideas as they come to me

To fix the spawn issue, We could hired an architect or architects from creative to build a new one.

New people don't really want to join a town unless they know someone in that town

I've heard alot of negative things about factions

    - no comment on whitelist/greylist topic

there are more ways to advertise that we haven't employed yet.

Minigames are great, but having too many of them undermines the idea of surviving.

I try to spread the word, and I will continue to do my best. I notice a lot of guests that come on, screw around, but never end up coming back. Guests either don't know or don't care about how to get white listed. Personally, I think it needs to be easier and better advertised to guests, so they can enjoy shadecrest. Also, I think people tend to get bored with just normal survival and a few common plugins. Maybe mix it up a bit? Lastly, we should advertise more, especially with how popular creative got, it helps, I think we could bring in more people. I find that I am one of the few non-admins/mods that goes on survival a lot. I'm glad you brought this up, and I will do what I can to help :)

hiring someone from creative sounds like a great idea there's some amazing builds in there

really? the first thing i would want to do is join a town. that's just me but i'm sure there's other people like that. i dislike living alone in my opinion its like playing single player.

i agree there's deff some free ways to advertise.

i agree we don't want to undermine the idea of survival but there must be a way to have them without actually effecting the way survival is played?

it would be great to see shadecrest ... shadecrest again :)

i agree completely with this it maybe should be mixed up a bit but not too much to the point where we arent shadecrest anymore which is where the challenge would be presented.

you hit the nail on the head with why i dont like the greylist system ... but we also dont want to make it soo easy that hackers and griefers flood the server, so there must be a balance there also.

My biggest gripe with survival is all the damn rules. I copied and pasted the rules into a word document... It's 3300 words and 7 pages long. I realize rules are needed to keep the server orderly, but there has to be a limit. Need I remind you minecraft is an open ended sandbox game? I think all the rules about farming especially are killing creativity, but perhaps I'm the only one who feels that way. Regardless, I think it would be obvious that such an extensive rule list is a huge turn off for new players.

The latest rule change was to make obsidian generators illegal... I've been using them since the glorious days of Flexcity, and I know current admins who have been using them since the map reset. I don't get why rules like this are made. Just let the people play minecraft.

He's not complaining enrique, he is trying to help out by suggesting things, like this thread was made for.
I had an idea about a refer a friend promotion; when making an application you can say that soandso referred you to the server and in return both/the one that referred can get a reward. I don't know how that would pan out, it is totally open for adaptation.

I referenced the rules concerning mob farming and the latest rule change to obsidian generators as the most limiting to gameplay, and referenced the shear length of the rules as discouraging to new players joining the server. There is no point in my critiquing any more than this if I'm the only one who sees a problem with the rules, so I kept my post rather general.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound mad or whatever. I understand you prepositions, but that isn't something I have heard complaints about before

Z_Millla i agree the rules are a bit overkill and something that would turn me away as a new joiner either that or i wouldnt read them and end up getting banned and talking badly about the server for not understanding i was banned and thats a problem.

    Pieman great idea :)

When we had the map reset we went back through everything pertaining to how the survival server ran. We changed everything from gold prices, to town start-up costs. We did touch on the rules a little bit, but we should go back and review them again. I do agree with Z_millla on this opinion.

Another idea, could we ask some of the creative people to help vote for survival so it shows up on websites like creative does?

If you need a spawn designed I don't mind helping, all i would ask for is some survival admin/mod types to tell me what buildings are needed and what the desired layout would be. I know plenty of amazing builders that would be up for this sort of a challenge. Also, it may be an idea to have a spawn for each world you warp to? I know you have spawns, but at the moment they are just random creative builds as far as I know. It would also be nice to have a mining world spawn or hub? I haven't been on survival for a long time but those were some of my thoughts at the time :)

when i first joined this server awhile back, i felt very welcomed, everybody said hello and talked to me, so maybe we could have like a auto welcoming thing for guests? or we could just encourage people to do it. another thing i suggest is a welcome kit. with maybe basic tools and some melons, like we had at the beginning (not sure if guests still get the kit) also i have noticed a big turn off is that griefing is allowed in mining, i think that we could give the guests maybe like a temp house in a non griefing area (maybe 3 days) so they could feel safe for a few days and get their act together. and regarding the house idea, maybe we could form like a village of houses for the guests so they could meet new players and form alliences (i think i spelled that wrong) and they would be less likely to leave because of their new found "friendship"
(i apologize if this does not fit under the catiegory "advertising"

We're trying to convince max to get some plugins ;) if you have any in mind let us know, we can get a survival games world up again if the lag isn't too bad, it was horrible before, it all depends on max.

As for spawn, wasn't cerburus starting one?

I agree with bobby. I am not on survival as much anymore, but when I first started, the admins and moderators were very helpful and insightful. I'M NOT BUSTING ON THE STAFF HERE. You guys do your job well. :) I know sometimes the guests are too stubborn or afraid to ask about the server, and when they do they are sometimes ignored or begin to troll. Just something to boost their want to play/join the server.

I agree with bobbylou4 on having a starting village/town for new players where they could live in. Of course it would be way better if a real person had time to help every new guest with their questions and needs, but sadly the server is currently having too few players online to give guests the help they would deserve.
Z_Millla has the point also <3 I personally like long rules, but I must agree that I want a obsidian generator!
