With the latest update, it's encouraged PvP to become more mainstream! With this, I wanted to suggest a neat little feature that could be useful in shortening an otherwise slow task, finding players.

This feature would work a lot like the lockpicks in a sense that they have a chance of working, failing or breaking. A player would purchase a special enchanted compass (different compasses could be purchased depending on efficiency rating etc.), depending on who the player using the compass is closest to in the world, they would right-click whilst holding the compass and it would point, for a short amount of time, at a specific player, the specific player being targeted would also be stated in chat to the player.

The magic compass would be able to be used multiple times, depending on the chances set and if the player using the compass was to pursue a particular target, they would be able to get the general idea of where that player is using the compass. The compass could be used again and if successful, the compass would point at a recent location that the player being targeted has been.

Although, if the player becomes too close to another player, or another player logs on and is closer to the player using the compass than another, it would change the target to the closest player, meaning the player using the compass would have to be close to the target if multiple people are online.

    Broken Down

Feature: 'Magic Compass' - points to the nearest player, stating the name of the player located.

Uses: Can be used in PvP for a player to find the general location of another.

Balance: By using the same features as the lockpicks, success, fail and break chances, it keeps the compass feature fair. Could also implement a feature depending on the type of compass (if different types are used) that would notify the player being targeted that they are being targeted by a player using a 'low-tier' compass.

Price: Differs depending on efficiency etc. of the compass. Generally around 5-7.5K.

One problem with this is each player has a single compass target. Switching targets based on a specific item in hand would look extremely odd for anyone holding multiple different compasses, as each would jump to different targets in unison as you scroll though the hotbar.
Another is that you can’t target an entity, you need to constantly target their position. Any code would need to run for all players on some delay, which greatly increases complexity over lockpicks.
